Cannabis Declassification davidkennedy ActivismActivist NewsNewsPoliticsState News February 12, 2015 Source: Time Magazine A federal judge is hearing a case of nine men illegally growing Cannabis on federal land in California. She has noted that she is considering arguments that the federal government has improperly labeled marijuana as one of the most dangerous drugs. The U.S. government classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, putting it in the most dangerous of five categories. Drug classification is determined by the drug’s potential for abuse and dependency, and whether the drug has an acceptable medical use. Especially shocking is that cocaine, methamphetamine, and OxyContin are all Schedule II drugs, meaning that by federal law, they are treated as less dangerous and more medically appropriate than marijuana! If convicted, these nine men face up to life in prison and a $10 million fine.
