Five Amazing Factoids About Cannabis

According to the Chicago medical marijuana website, there are five things you don’t know about Cannabis.

First, THC and CBD, marijuana’s primary cannabinoids, are both cancer killers. Not only does Cannabis help manage cancer’s effects, it actually has anti-cancer properties. Recent research out of Spain suggests that THC, marijuana’s psychoactive ingredient, kills brain cancer cells. The study’s co-author claims that when THC was applied to cancerous brain tissue, the cancer cells were killed while the healthy cells were left intact. CBD can apparently have the same impact. A pair of scientists from the California Pacific Medical Center demonstrated CBD’s ability to stop metastasis in many kinds of aggressive cancer.

Second, Cannabis triggers neurogenesis. The commonly held myth that marijuana kills brain cells may in fact be the opposite. In addition, a 2005 study shows that anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects accompany the neurogenesis.

Third, suicide rates are lower in areas where medical marijuana is available. This, based on a Denver state-level study analyzed the statistical trend of suicide after introduction of medical marijuana.

Fourth, smoked marijuana seems to offset the harmful properties of the smoke, including the development of lung cancer.

Fifth, the two different kinds of Cannabis, sativa and indica, affect consumers differently. Sativas tend to have a more stimulating, mind-altering affect while indicas have a more narcotic, relaxing effect.
