Cannabidiol (CBD) and the treatment of epilepsy in children

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the second leading cannabinoid found in Cannabis. While it has no psychoactive effects when taken on its own, when combined with THC, CBD-rich strains have calming, sedating properties that can cut down on the anxiety, paranoia, and memory impairment that consumers often feel with just THC alone. CBD has also been proven to provide great relief to children with debilitating seizures, and there is now a push in many states without medical marijuana programs to enact them. There are even stories of parents with these children moving about the country in order to find a state that will allow them CBD-rich Cannabis access. In fact, there is already a medicine out there called Sativex that is a natural Cannabis extract consisting of equal parts CBD and THC, made by GW Pharmaceuticals in the UK. GW Pharmaceuticals is also developing a pure CBD extract known as Epidiolex for the treatment of pediatric epilepsy.
